Guidelines for Scheduling Grade Ten Students
  • All students must take the CAHSEE in grade ten and may only take it once in grade ten. All grade ten students must take the CAHSEE during the census administration, unless they are absent or are a retained grade ten student who previously passed the CAHSEE.

  • Retained grade ten students who have previously passed the CAHSEE may not retake the examination. However, an answer document with completed demographic information must be submitted for these students as part of the calculation of adequate yearly progress (AYP).

  • Districts must offer the grade ten census administration in either February or March.

  • Districts may provide grade ten students who were absent during the census administration with a make-up opportunity in either the March or May administrations.

  • No grade ten students are eligible to take the CAHSEE in the July, October, November, or December administrations.

Guidelines for Scheduling Grade Eleven Students
  • Grade eleven students may be administered the CAHSEE up to two times per school year for the part(s) of the examination not previously passed.

  • Grade eleven students may test in successive administrations. However, it is recommended that school districts allow enough time between administrations to receive score reports back from the previous administration and allow time for remediation prior to the next administration.

Guidelines for Scheduling Grade Twelve Students
  • Grade twelve students shall have at least three opportunities per school year to take the CAHSEE not previously passed. Grade twelve students may take the section(s) of the CAHSEE not yet passed up to five times per school year.

  • Grade twelve students may test in successive administrations. However, it is recommended that school districts allow enough time between administrations to receive score reports back from the previous administration and allow time for remediation prior to the next administration.

  • Please note that student results from the May 2011 administration of the CAHSEE will arrive in school districts in July 2011. School districts that wish to have student results back before spring 2011 graduation ceremonies should not select the May 2011 administration option for grade twelve and adult students.School districts will be required to acknowledge this prior to ordering test materials for the May 2011 administration.

Guidelines for Scheduling Adult Students
  • Adult students may be administered the CAHSEE up to three times per school year for the part(s) of the examination not previously passed.

  • Adult students may test in successive administrations. However, it is recommended that school districts allow enough time between administrations to receive score reports back from the previous administration and allow time for remediation prior to the next administration.
